Service FAQ
When you buy or lease a new vehicle, it’s vital that you stay on top of the maintenance that it needs over time. But if you’re not super familiar with how cars work, understanding the ins and outs of vehicle maintenance can be daunting. Here are some frequently asked questions that we get at Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet.
How often do I need an oil change?
If you’ve recently purchased a brand-new vehicle, you’ll want to consider its warranty when getting oil changes. Staying on top of the manufacturer’s recommendation — typically found in the owner’s manual — will help you stay within warranty in case anything goes awry.
Another factor that you’ll need to consider is the type of oil your vehicle uses, whether it’s synthetic, conventional, or a combination of the two. Certain oils are meant to last longer than others, so you can go without oil changes for an extended period.
The final thing to think about with oil changes is how you drive. If you typically only take your car on short trips to the grocery store and around town on the weekends, your car shouldn’t need oil changes as often. But if you regularly commute long distances or take extended road trips, you can expect to need more frequent oil changes.
Our Service team at Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet can assess your vehicle and its oil change needs when you bring it in for inspection.
Why are oil changes so important?
Why is my check engine light on?
The check engine light, which is sometimes said to look like a genie’s lamp, indicates that there is an issue that needs immediate attention. However, it could be one of many problems: loose or faulty gas cap, worn spark plugs, faulty catalytic converter, dirty mass airflow sensor, etc. But that’s where our team comes in with our expert ability to provide a proper diagnosis and let you know how we can fix what needs attention promptly.
Are electric cars lower or higher maintenance?
Do my tires need air even if they don't look flat?
Maybe! Maintaining proper air pressure in your car’s tires is vital for driving safely. If they are over- or underinflated, you could lose grip on the road and control of the vehicle. Most newer models come with tire pressure monitoring systems that let you know the PSI (pounds per square inch) of each tire. But you can also manually check them with a tire gauge. Tires don’t necessarily look flat when they are underinflated, so it’s best to check the PSI once a month.
Why do I need to get my tires rotated?
Your vehicle’s tires work to keep you safe by gripping the road. The tread eventually starts to wear down the more you drive, but it does so unevenly because of turns in the road and how you drive. By rotating the tires, we’re evening out the tread so you’re less likely to slide on various road conditions.
If you still have any questions or if you think your vehicle needs to be looked at, feel free to contact our Service Department at Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet in FORT WORTH, TX. We’ll help you to better understand what your car might need and get you back on the road in no time!
